We can use WildCards directives while configuring backup selections in a policy. Just thought to share how we can use the this directive.

If we want to backup all .pdf or .doc files in a folder then we can use this directive.

For eg. If we want to backup all pdf files under path C:AA then we can add the following backup selection:

C:AA*pdf

Similarly if we want to backup all doc files under path D: then we can add the following backup selection:

D:*doc

If we want to backup all pdf or doc files starting with any alphabet (a-z) then also we can use this directive.

For eg. If we want to backup all pdf files under path C:AA starting with alphabet “c” then we can add the following backup selection:

C:AAc*pdf

Similarly if we want to backup all doc files under path D: starting with alphabet “a” then we can add the following backup selection:

D:a*doc

Using this I have created a test policy named “Test” and validated it and got a successful backup of all pdf files specified in the backup selection.

Backup Selection Using WildCard:

The expansion of wildcard will result in one stream per wild card expansion, for instance in the Test policy the total number of jobs will equal to the sum of pdf files starting with “c” in C:AA and pdf files starting with “c” in D:SNAPSHOTS.
