Today we will learn How to Start Opsware Agent on ESX Server from CLI – HP Opsware Tool is quite popular in the market to use for patching servers. Here it interact with a Opsware Agent and if the agent fails then you may need to start Opsware Agent on ESX .
So Lets see How to start Opsware Agent on ESX…?
Login to the ESX Server using putty or console session with root access
Then you need to go to /etc/init.d and check for opsware-agent status
In the above image you can see opsware-agent is stopped state
Now you can start Opsware Agent on ESX – /etc/init.d/opsware-agent start
But here we can see an error while starting the Service as the Opsware Port is occupied by another process as shown in above image “rpc.statd” Occupied Opsware Port is 1002
rpc.statd – NSM status monitor
The rpc.statd server implements the NSM (Network Status Monitor) RPC protocol. This service is somewhat misnomed, since it doesn’t actually provide active monitoring as one might suspect; instead, NSM implements a reboot notification service. It is used by the NFS file locking service, rpc.lockd, to implement lock recovery when the NFS server machine crashes and reboots.
Now we need to check process ID for the rpc.statd, so that we can kill the process and free the Opsware Port 1002 – but before that we need to ensure that NFS is running or stopped before we kill rpc.statd
from the above image we can see the NFS is stopped
Now we run rpcinfo -p (rpcinfo – report RPC information)
rpcinfo makes an RPC call to an RPC server and reports what it finds and -p Probe the portmapper on host and print a list of all registered RPC programs. If host is not specified, it defaults to the value returned by the Hostname.
Now we need to check and find process ID to release the port – run : ps -ef | rpc.statd
Next we will the PID as kill -9 “PID Number” and we run “run : ps -ef | rpc.statd” to very the process is killed
Now we can start the Opsware Agent as /etc/init.d/opsware-agent start
Now we can very the process as ps -ef | grep ops
Now we need to also start the rpc.statd – so do that i have to execute the file
go to /sbit dir to execute the file
That set you are all set now .. it was easy correct – share you comments Thanks
